游戲改編自意大利詩人阿利蓋利·但丁的不朽名作《神曲》的第三人稱動作冒險新作。《神曲》是意大利詩人阿利蓋利·但丁(Dante Alighieri)的長詩。寫于1307年至1321年，全詩為《地獄》、《煉獄》和《天堂》三部分。《神曲》采用中世紀文學特有的幻游形式，但丁以自己為主人公，假想他作為一名活人對冥府進行了一次游歷。主人公但丁游歷了由邊獄、貪色、饕餮、貪婪、憤怒、信奉邪教、強暴、欺詐、背叛所組成的9層地獄以及煉獄，最終找到戀人的靈魂并一同進入天堂。
